The Bowen Island Yacht Club is a friendly, family-oriented club which has provided a sail training program for over 20 years. All BIYC staff are experienced, trained, and certified by the Canadian Yachting Association to offer CYA accredited courses. Learners enjoy quality sail instruction in a fun and safe environment. Come sail with us and experience the exhilaration of learning to sail!

BIYC is looking to grow its programs and expand to meet the needs of our community. In addition to our tried and true sail training programs, new this summer are the Members Open Sailing and the BIYC Junior Sailing Club. NEW! Open Day Saturday, May 23 at Tunstall Bay

NEW! Learn to Sail Optimist. BIYC, in partnership with BC Sailing, is offering a Mobile Optimist Sailing School (MOSS). Participants will learn sailing basics and boating safety through activities on and off the water. Seven-foot Optimist sailboats and two-person kayaks will be used in this safe, fun, and affordable program. No experience is necessary. Limited space. REGISTRATION DEADLINE MAY 31. NEW! Fun Sailing Week. Fun Week is designed for students who want to practice their new sailing skills with longer cruises, water games, playful races and lots of fun. Prerequisite: completion of WS II. Days: Mon - Fri Dates: August 10 - 14 Time: 9:00 - 4:00 pm Age: 10 - 16 years Cost: Members $200


White Sails I Course description Days: Mon - Fri Dates: (1 week) July 27 - 31 Time: 9:00 - 4:00 pm Age: 10-16 years Cost: Members $225; Non-members $250 (this fee includes BIYC membership for entire family (valued at $75) - (click here to see list of membership benefits *Membership)

REGISTRATION for all the above Programs (except the BC Sailing MOSS Program) is conducted through Bowen Island Community Recreation ' located at Bowen Island Community School, 1041 Mt. Gardner Road, Bowen Island, (604) 947-2216.

We recommend students purchase the CYA Basic Skills handbook ($25) unless they already have one. This is optional.

In order for the Sail Training Program to operate successfully, families of children registered for one of our Sail Training programs are required to volunteer to BIYC in some capacity equivalent to 4 hours of service. Alternatively, families may choose to donate $100 to BIYC in lieu of volunteer hours. (See Community Survey form for volunteer activities.)

Notice of cancellation and refund request must be received 15 days prior to the beginning of a session. A $50 cancellation fee will be charged on all refund requests. No refunds after the start of a session.
